In Africa, we are tackling what we believe are the biggest systemic problems that the humanitarian sector faces – problems including slow and reactive funding, centralized decision making and an aversion to change which means that people affected by crises around Africa do not receive the best help fast enough and needless suffering results. We are re-imagining philanthropy to catalyze organizations driving social justice and building movements across the African continent.

Funding inquiry

We shape our strategic priorities by listening to both local and global experts, drawing on the extensive network of advisory boards that support our programs. This decentralized structure allows us to pursue long term strategies and to respond effectively to community needs that require emergency funding.

The Regional Board works with our leadership to develop and review strategies. The regional board is supported by the Network Advisory council whose members come from the expert boards that support each of our programs and organizations. The Program Board solicits and reviews proposals from eligible organizations and awards funding accordingly. The leadership of STIFUND consists of born again Christians who believe in charity work as a way of doing the will of God.

We work mainly through Community Based Organizations, Companies, churches and NGOs. Our strategy of working through partnerships is intended to build institutional capacity of groups, supporting innovation and ensuring that the funding provided meets the needs of the target beneficiaries and is culturally relevant. In doing so, we encourage grantees to forge collaborations and partnerships with local and national government agencies to enhance sustainability of the projects.

We focus on the following 21 thematic areas;

  1. Youth and Women empowerment
  2. Empowering individuals disadvantaged by disability, poverty or old age.
  3. Programs for Refugees.
